Saturday, November 29, 2025
1:00–4:00 PM
HeartWorks Studio | 395 Nehalem Blvd, Wheeler, OR
Sliding scale: $5–$20 (pay what you can)
About the Class
Beginner-friendly, hands-on class to learn sewing machine setup, care, and stitching basics—then create something new using reclaimed materials. This class is designed for you to learn on your own sewing machine, so please bring yours to use during the session.
What You’ll Learn
The basic parts of your sewing machine and what they do
How to thread your machine and wind a bobbin
How to adjust tension for smooth stitching
Essential machine care and maintenance
How to use basic stitches to complete a simple project
What to Bring
Your own portable sewing machine (in good working order) and its instruction manual.
Scissors and thread will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own if preferred.
Please Note
Class begins promptly at 1:00pm. To keep things flowing smoothly for everyone, please plan to arrive a few minutes early to get settled before we start.
Keep in Mind
Learning to sew is like learning to play an instrument—it takes time and practice. Once you understand the basics, your skills (and imagination) will grow with every project. This class is a perfect starting point for future sustainable sewing workshops at Heart of Cartm.
